Members' questions answered:
Since the launch of One1one Accident Aftercare membership to all members of The Royal British Legion it has been our privilege to speak to a number of members who have telephoned us for further details of the scheme. We thought it would be helpful to set out the questions that have been asked together with our answers to help members understand the One1one offering.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have received my One1one Accident Aftercare membership pack; is there anything I need to do to be able to use the One1one service?
No. There is nothing else you have to do as you are now a member of One1one. Keep your membership card with you and put the windscreen sticker somewhere inside your car as all you have to do is ring the helpline number first in the event of an accident. We also recommend that members put the helpline number that appears on their membership card into the memory on their mobile phone.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Membership of One1one is free and using the service doesn't cost me anything so how do you make your money?
The principle on which our service is based is that where a member is involved in an accident that is not their fault we recover the cost of repairs to your vehicle, the provision of a replacement vehicle and the cost of pursuing a personal injury claim for an injured member from the at fault drivers insurers.
Where our member is provided with a replacement vehicle our service provider pays us a commission. Where our Solicitors deal with a members personal injury claim they pay us a case referral fee. It is from these two sources that we make our money.
This, however, is not the full story. What is important is that we give to the Legion 50% of everything we receive from the above revenue streams. To put this in context, if every Legion member involved in an accident called the One1one helpline the contribution that we would make to the Legion could add up to a substantial donation for the Poppy Appeal.
We say on our web site "Proud Supporters of The Royal British Legion" and we mean it. By using your One1one membership you will be helping yourself to help us help the Legion.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I am involved in an accident shouldn't I call my insurer or broker first?
There is no need: the One1one service includes reporting the accident to your insurers, as well as contacting the other driver and their insurers. Our slogan is "ONE NUMBER, ONE CALL, ONE COMPLETE SERVICE" which literally means by calling the One1one helpline number first you can be confident that all appropriate steps are taken on your behalf to sort out the aftermath of an accident. The only thing you need to do is make sure you have the details of the other driver, name, address, vehicle registration number and, if they have the details on them, the details of their insurer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's the position if the accident is my fault?
If our member's car is legally undrivable as a result of an accident we will recover the vehicle for them if necessary regardless of fault. In other words even if the accident was your fault we will not leave you stranded at the side of the road.
In addition to recovering the vehicle we will give as much advise and assistance as we can to a member even if the accident was their fault. Our trained advisers are there to guide you through the steps that need to be taken following an accident that was your fault.
It is not necessary for our members to decide whether an accident was their fault or not. Just ring the helpline number in the event of an accident and our staff will be able to advise as to whether the accident was your fault or not.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Great service but what's the catch?
We are pleased to say there is no catch. Membership is free and when members use the service there are no hidden costs or charges. As you can imagine, before allowing us to provide membership of One1one to all its members' senior people within the Legion looked at us and our service very carefully. They were satisfied that not only was everything we said true but that we had the facilities to provide our service to such a large group of people.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How can members of my family also become members of One1one Accident Aftercare?
The free membership of One1one Accident Aftercare is available not only to Legion members but also the members of their families. It's easy to get additional membership packs for as many members of your family as you wish. You can either ring 0844 85 83 111 (not the number on your One1one membership card or windscreen sticker as this number is for reporting accidents) or go to our web site www.legion.one1one.co.uk to request additional membership packs for members of your family.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A friend of mine is not a Legion member but supports the work of the Legion; could they join One1one?
We are very happy to provide free membership of One1one to anyone who supports the work of the Legion. Any supporter of the Legion who is not a member can go to our web site at www.legion.one1one.co.uk and click on the Join Now page. They can then fill in their details and a One1one membership pack will be sent out to them. Just as with any Legion member or member of their family if a supporter joins One1one and uses the service they will be directly contributing to Legion funds and supporting the work of the Legion.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You say in your membership booklet that One1one membership has other benefits, what are they?
We want One1one to be able to assist its members not only when they have an accident. We provide a range of discounted legal services the details of which can be viewed on our web site. We are also constantly looking for other motoring related discounted benefits that we can pass on to our members. The additional benefits that we are able to offer will be advertised on our web site from time to time. We recommend that members visit our web site regularly to take advantage of the offers as they appear. The web site at www.Legion.one1one.co.uk is also a good source of more detailed information about the One1one service.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a similar package of services to One1one that I paid extra for on my motor insurance, can I still use my One1one membership if I have an accident?
Yes. There is absolutely no reason why you can't use your One1one membership in preference to any other similar package sold as an add on to your motor insurance. If you use an alternative package of services to One1one in the event of an accident bear in mind that whoever is providing that package will not be contributing to Legion funds.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I renew my motor insurance can I save some money by not taking up the similar product that my insurers or broker tries to sell me as an add on to my motor insurance?
One1one accident Aftercare is not an alternative to motor insurance which you must have. However, many insurers and brokers will try to sell you a similar package to One1one accident Aftercare. What we say to our members is consider carefully what you need and look at what your insurer or broker is offering you.
By way of example, One1one Accident Aftercare provides a service to motorists involved in an accident in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Some products offered by insurers and brokers cover accidents in Europe and other parts of the world. You should bear this in mind when considering whether to take up a product offered by an insurer or broker. If One1one provides all the services you are likely to need then you can indeed save yourself some money by using your free membership of One1one rather than paying for the add on product from an insurer or broker.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Does my One1one membership replace my breakdown cover?
No. One1one is there to assist you in the event of an accident. If you have breakdown cover you should continue with this in order to have assistance when you break down rather than have an accident.
